bus_turist The economic crisis has weighed on Italian tourism in a truly dramatic for the industry, with a further fall of -4.5% in 2009 on a national scale compared to the already black 2008.
But since the 2009 report on tourists in accommodation made by the Province of Reggio Calabria in the National Statistics Program shows that it is the City's eastern shore of the Strait is a happy oasis of tourism in times of crisis.

In Reggio, compared to the evolution provincial, regional and national level where each month of 2009 is marked by negativity, for five months there has been an increase ranging from 6.47% and 3.64% for arrival on admissions for the month of May and +6.51% +6.82% of arrivals and presences in June. November, against every conceivable prediction, also in a positive both in arrivals and presences respectively 9.36% and 9.68%.

Even in the city and the whole province, there is a tourist neighborhood, represented mainly by the same Calabrian, from Latium, from Sicily, from Campania and Lombardy, but the foreign component of arrivals is more represented than other territorial divisions. Reggio is chosen as a holiday destination especially by the Spanish and the U.S..

Also worthy of note, the phenomenon of accommodation, increased significantly in the city in terms of appearances and videos, but also in terms of increased facilities and beds (respectively + 34.55% and +35.14%) .

"Data on tourism in the municipality of Reggio Calabria - state president of the Chamber of Commerce Lucio Dattola - in contrast with the provincial and regional averages, bode well for the future of the industry and demonstrate that the synergistic action of both public and individuals in our country has allowed not only to limit the damage caused by the crisis, but rather allowed to exploit the tourist attraction of Reggio, increasing tourist traffic in the city and embarked on a strategy of seasonal adjustment that has already taken the first important results . Faced with this result, acquire a value more important and demonstrates how the actions taken in recent years not only have made the tourist city but have managed to combat the crisis of consumption. Such experiences, which have proved their worth in the municipality of Reggio Calabria, should be taken as a model for an expansion and intensification of supporting the tourism sector also at regional level. Parallel efforts to promote other forms of tourist accommodation such as bed and breakfast "have helped diversify the city offered low-cost segments, allowing you to achieve widespread forms of hospitality that responded well to the saving needs of the tourists' .
